With Celestial Oranges, we are transported into an enchanting universe: sparkling galaxies, mysterious constellations, stars in the process of being created, iridescent planets and swirling meteorites.
A ballet of energy unfolds before our eyes, between spirals of sparks and black holes distorting space. Each element evokes a multitude of possibilities. However, what is most evident are the lines of force, the magnetic fields and the elegantly curved trajectories, revealing the celestial harmony that underpins this universe.
The title of the series emphasises that this fascinating balance captivates astronomers and poets alike, as Paul Éluard reminds us in his famous verse: ‘The earth is blue like an orange,’ from L'Amour de la poésie.
The embossing and engraving process brings this work to life: the flat surface of the paper comes alive, curving and enriched with delicate textures, bearing witness to the passage of invisible waves.
The monochrome panels come into their own thanks to the play of light that adorns them with subtle shades of chiaroscuro. The cream colour of the paper comes from cellulose extracted from recycled orange peel, adding an eco-friendly touch to this artistic exploration.
